History

Norm Snow

Norm Snow Norm was the founding conductor of the band, and he continued conducting until 1981. He was a member of the famous Black Dyke Mills Brass Band in the 1940's and as such brought with him a wealth of experience, knowledge and talent.

Norm’s tenure with the band included the establishment of the ensemble and its growth through its years as a junior band. During his stewardship, the band forged links with the Northern Districts Junior Band (which for sometime operated as the City of Stirling Junior Band) to develop younger musicians in the Perth community.

Norm was a cornet player who distinguished himself as a teacher of brass throughout Western Australia. Following his retirement from the band in 1981, he continued to teach, and in later years established the City of Perth Junior Band, which was formed almost entirely from his students.
