Success
The success of the band has to be attributed to the commitment of its members. While they are highly skilled musicians they must put in many hours of practice and rehearsals in order to maintain and improve the standard of performances. Many hours of unpaid organisational work is also done for the betterment of the band by members both past and present.
Contesting
The Royal Agricultural Society of WA Brass is the most successful band to ever compete in Western Australia. It has been the State ‘A’ Grade Champion Band every year since 1979. In addition, the ensemble has toured to contests in Adelaide, Melbourne, Launceston and Sydney. Members of the band have also been successful at every level of contesting.
Competition highlights
In 1981, when it was awarded the ABC National Band of the Year, and in 1996, when, against fifteen bands, The Royal Agricultural Society of WA Brass secured second place in the A Grade Own Choice section at the Australasian Band Championships in Sydney, beaten only by the Fosters Band from New Zealand, the Contest winners.
Soloists
Many soloists from the band competed successfully in the WABA state contest winning either the Norm Snow trophy for best ensemble player or have won the title Champion of Champions in WA in the solo contest. Winners of the Champion of Champions are invited to the Ern Keller competition in Sydney, Australia's premier "by invitation only" solo contest. Players invited to the Ern Keller include:
